Home / Destinations / Mansalangan Sandbar
Mansalangan is the longest sandbar in the Balabac area: a strip of white sand that sits barely above the waterline, with shallow turquoise water on both sides.
What it is
A sandbar is not an island. Mansalangan shifts with the tide, appearing wide and dry at low water and narrowing to a thread as the water rises. That is exactly what makes it worth visiting: for a couple of hours it is a white road through the sea.
When we visit
Mansalangan is an 8:00 AM stop on day three of the 4-day Balabac Expedition, reached after breakfast at camp and before the quieter islands of Canibungan and Tangkahan later the same day.
Making the most of it
- Arrive near low tide, when the sandbar is at its widest
- Bring a dry bag - there is no shade and no shelter out there
- Reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and footwear for the sand
- A drone if you have one, this is the view people come for
