Home / Destinations / Patawan Island
Patawan Island is our snorkelling stop on day one. The reef sits close to the beach, and sea turtles are common here, which makes it the first real taste of what Balabac has underwater.
What makes Patawan worth the stop
The water around Patawan is shallow enough to snorkel comfortably and clear enough to see the reef from the surface. Guests consistently report sea turtles here, along with the usual reef fish and coral that has not been damaged by heavy traffic.
When we visit
Patawan is a 2:00 PM stop on day one of the expedition, after the first swim and lunch at Canimeran Island, and before we arrive at our Punta Sebaring campsite for sunset. It is a good way to end your first afternoon on the water.
Snorkelling tips
- Do not stand on or touch the coral
- Keep a respectful distance from turtles and never chase them
- Reef-safe sunscreen only
- Tell your guide if you are not a confident swimmer and they will stay close
